Illegal drone flight resulted in a fine of NOK 12,000


The Governor has imposed a fine of NOK 12,000 on a tourist after an illegal drone flight in the centre of Longyearbyen. The fine has been accepted.

It was on Wednesday 14 February 2024 that the tourist flew a drone in the centre of Longyearbyen despite a ban on such an activity closer than 5 km from the airport's runway. Prior to the flight, permission for such a flight had not been obtained from the tower at Svalbard Airport.

In addition, the drone flew at a height of 500 meters above the ground, while the permitted height for all drone flights is 120 meters above the ground.

For the violations, the Governor fined the tourist NOK 12,000 and in addition the drone was confiscated. The fine has been accepted.
