Safety, the environment, and good working and living conditions will be in focus when the Norwegian Maritime Authority supervises vessels in Svalbard this summer, the NMA writes in a press release.

“The shipping companies are responsible for ensuring that vessels and crew meet the current requirements in the regulations. Our desire is to come on board to see that safety is well taken care of. Think safety - it provides increased security for both crew and passengers”, says Alf Tore Sørheim, department head for operational supervision in the NMA, who adds that vessels can be detained if the NMA finds serious conditions.
