The Governor has decided to evacuate houses and enforce a ban on entry in parts of Lia (see attached map). Evacuation and ban on entry apply from 18.00 today, 29 November, and until further notice. The decision, including time of evacuation, is based on weather forecasts and avalanche evaluation from The Norwegian Water Resources and Energy Directorate (NVE).

The evacuation will apply to the following addresses: Road 222-7, 222-9, 222-11, 222-13, 222-15, 222-17, Road 226-10, 226-12, 226-31, 226-33, 226 -35, 226-37, Road 228-2, 228-4 A, B, C, D, 228-7, 228-9, 228-11, 228-13 A, B, C, D, E.

The road to the area will be blocked from this evening on. 

"The evacuation deadline will be assessed continuously in close contact with the NVE," says Deputy Governor Berit Sagfossen.

The Longyearbyen Local Community Council encourages those who are being evacuated to acquire temporary housing on their own. Those who still need accommodation can contact the housing office established in the library with entrance from Rabalder cafe.

 

The ban on entry will now be permanent in the area where it was previously notified a ban on entry. This applies to the following addresses: Road 222-7, 222-9, 222-11, 222-13, 222-15, 222-17, Road 226-10, 226-12, 226-31, 226-33, 226-35, 226-37.
