The sailboat «Meloria», which broke down close to Sørkapp last Thursday, has been deemed not seaworthy by the Norwegian Maritime Authority. The boat will not be able to continue its voyage.

8 people were rescued from «Meloria» outside Sørkapp on Thursday 2 August. The boat was towed to Longyearbyen by KV «Bergen». After an inspection conducted by the Norwegian Maritime Authority, the boat was declared not seaworthy, and orders of improvement were imposed.

«Meloria» will be unable to continue its voyage. The company World Arctic Fund, which is listed as the organizer of the one-month trip to Svalbard, has accordingly cancelled the voyage and is working to find a solution for transporting the boat to the mainland.
