A. You are only going to Longyearbyen / You will be going on an
organised tour:
If you intend to stay in settlements, conceivably taking part in
activities arranged by a tour operator, you need not contact the
Governor. Nor do you need to read the rest of the information in the
insert to the right. Get in touch with the local tourist information,
Svalbard Reiseliv, which
will provide you with the information you need about Svalbard,
accommodations, activities etc.
B. You are going on a short, privately organised trip:
If you are planning to go on a trip on your own, within "Management Area
10", you need not contact the Governor. Read the rest of the information
in the insert to the right, disregarding "Notification and Insurance
Procedures", which do not apply to "Management Area 10". If you for
instance are planning to set camp on the northern shore of ”Isfjorden”
you are considered to be outside the ”Management Area 10” and therefore
you will need to comply with the notification and insurance requirements.
Familiarize yourself with local regulations, particularly those that deal
with environment and safety precautions.
C. You are setting off on a lengthy private trip or expedition /
You will be arriving by ship:
If you plan to go on a lengthy trip on your own outside "Management
Area 10", or if you're going to Svalbard by ship, you will need to
comply with the notification and insurance requirements. Familiarise
yourself with local regulations, particularly those that deal with
environment and safety precautions. Read the rest of the information in
the insert to the right.
