If you intend to stay in settlements, conceivably taking part in activities arranged by a tour operator, you need not contact the Governor. Get in touch with the local tourist information, Svalbard Reiseliv, which will provide you with the information you need about Svalbard, accommodations, activities etc.

B. You are going on a short, privately organised trip:

If you are planning to go on a trip on your own, within "Management Area 10", you need not contact the Governor. Read the rest of the information in the insert to the right, disregarding "Notification and Insurance Procedures", which do not apply to "Management Area 10". If you for instance are planning to set camp on the northern shore of ”Isfjorden” you are considered to be outside the ”Management Area 10” and therefore you will need to comply with the notification and insurance requirements. Familiarize yourself with local regulations, particularly those that deal with environment and safety precautions.
