Several polar bear observations near Longyearbyen
The Governor has done several observations of polar bears close to Longyearbyen the last two weeks. Only last Thursday the duty officer was called to chase a polar bear that had been seen close to Vestpynten. The Governor recommends that everyone who leaves the settlement should carry means to chase the bear in addition to a rifle.
There have not been any dangerous situations connected to the bears that have been seen in the area lately. But The Governor encourages people who see polar bears close to the settlement, to call the duty officer on 79021222.
